Some Protestants may “vet” the local branch of their church before joining. They go to some services, check out the Sunday school program for their children, if that’s a factor, perhaps see what the quality of the choir is like, how good are the minister’s sermons? Catholics? These days more of us may do a bit of “shopping” for a good fit, but in the past that wasn’t heard of – you went to the parish that served your neighborhood. Period.
When we moved to where we live now, we were very lucky. We moved within the parish of Christ the King. A wonderful parish with a wonderful pastor and congregation. It was a welcoming community, and we took root.
Christ the King. The Sunday set aside today, November 20th, 2022 to help us raise our thoughts to the Advent season. A Solemnity to help us understand a mystery of our faith that is quite simply Christ is the King of our Universe. And as such, on this last Sunday of the liturgical year, am I living my best life as a Catholic Christian?
I find it a perfect time to reflect and pray one of my favorite prayers. Please join me in Anima Christi:
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds hide me.
Separated from you let me never be.
From the malignant enemy, defend me.
At the hour of death, call me.
And close to you bid me.
That with your saints I may be
Praising you, for all eternity. Amen. †
