Our Ordinary Paths

I know that Wisdom’s Dwelling goes to great lengths to ensure its readers and contributors are more than adequately offered pieces for Holy Days and holidays and myriad unforeseen special events within our Church, and yet here I am thrilled to be given yet another set of absolutely wonderful readings to consider for this Sunday in Ordinary Time! Ordinary Time? For me, Ordinary Time is one of the true blessings of our church.
It baffles me that our pews aren’t filled when we are given readings like this that offer so much for our consideration. And we are given so many, many different paths for our thoughts to go down. Let me tell you the bizarre path my thoughts go down with this week’s readings.
As we fulfill the obligation this weekend, we hear of the ancient Hebrews anticipation of Passover and also hear the wonderful Gospel of faithfulness, striving for holiness and justice – remaining vigilant.

And yet, what do I hear? I hear a reminder that I am so blessed to be celebrating my 54th wedding anniversary this week. We had and continue to have difficult times as a couple – all has not been golden! - but we were able to persevere, and we were blessed with children after several years of marriage and now grandchildren. We have a heritage that bears our name and will continue beyond our days, and we’re so proud of them all.
I have great peace when I consider the end of my time on this earth. I have had a good run. And as we hear this weekend: “Faith is the realization of what is hoped and evidence of things not seen.” If you haven’t had time to hear or read this Sunday’s readings, please grab a Bible and 5 minutes of quiet and do so – it’s so much better to read an actual Bible! Find the path you’ll be taken down. Inevitably it will be very different than the one I found and may peace be with you!
