Still...You Carry Us

My God, My God, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

I will glory in the Lord all my earthly days;

Let the praise of God’s name be forever spoken on our lips and kept deeply within our hearts.

Have mercy on us, Lord have mercy on us in times of trouble.

Let the afflicted hear and rejoice;

My God you give comfort for the lonely, suffering and hurting.

Before we were even born you burned our name upon your heart.

Just as you walk to the ends of the Earth to help one of your sheep,

You do the same for your children.

When my tears are flowing like a river, and stain my face, you walk to the ends of the Earth to carry me.

In times of trouble, when the pain is cutting like a knife, why does it feel you hide your face from me?

I know you are there but why can’t I hear you Lord?

The darkness is like a prison cell around my soul.

Just as David sat in the cave lonely, cold, and hungry, He cried out to God for help.

As I stand screaming in a room where no one looks up, Lord, why have you turned away?

As the Earth trembles with the weight of the world on her shoulders.

I feel the same weight O’ Lord and it’s heavy and burdensome.

I feel I may collapse against her weight.

I want this pain to go away. I feel as if my spirit has died Lord.

Consider and answer me, O Lord my God;

Light up my eyes and put a fire within my soul

Because of you I am not shaken.

Because of you I have beat the snares of death.

The things you have planned for our life Lord, is better than all the Gold and Silver one can obtain;

And the Glory of Heaven is upon our eyes as we wait to sit upon your throne aside you.

Even among the storms of our lives that crush our soul and kill our spirit,

Your love has never faltered;

And you carry your children in the palm of your hands.

When I was the wariest, that is when you armored me in your strength.

When I was in darkness that is when you burned your light upon my eyes.

When I was lost, you moved mountains and crossed oceans to find me and showed me your heart.

When I was broken and full of despair. That is when your arms consumed me.

You are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil does not dwell within you.

When the lies of the world weigh me down, you destroy those who speak lies.

Where would I be if you had not rescued me?

I will bow down toward your holy cross. Come into my dwelling O’ Lord and make your way straight before me.

How majestic is your name in all the earth!

Even in times of trouble I will glory in the Lord all my earthy days;

Forever singing the praise of God!

One of my favorite poems is the “Footprints in the Sand” poem. The poem talks about God carrying us in our times of grief. Life is messy at times, and sometimes the weight of our hurt, suffering, and despair feels unbearable. That is when God picks us up, dusts us off, and carries us through the pits of despair. May you feel God’s loving arms wrapped around you in times of darkness and trouble.
