O Root of Jesse’s Stem

O Root of Jesse’s stem,

sign of God’s love for all his people:

come to save us without delay!

God, you remember. You remember your people. You remember your covenant. You bring life when all hope seems lost. You bring life, even if it is not always the life of this world, but eternal life.

We turn to you our God, asking you to open our hearts, minds, and souls so we may more fully embrace your incarnate love, Jesus. We ask for this love, this salvation with the greatest of urgency. In a time when suffering, illness, injustice, fear, apathy, and disregard for each other are so abundant in our world God, we ask for Jesus, Love Incarnate, to come to the world and to each of our hearts.

  • Inviting the green and growing love of God, Jesus, into your heart can be intimidating. Spend time with God, listening to the voice of the Spirit affirming you, recognizing your worth, inviting you to humility, and always accompanying you in love.

  • Plants can grow unpredictably, how has Jesus' presence in your life affected you? If you are unsure, and questioning whether you want this green and changing life within you, rest in God's love and embrace.

  • Thank God for the salvation God offers. Ask God to show you where you can share love and salvation with others through your words and actions.
