The O Antiphons are an ancient prayer dating back to the 8th century. From December 17 to 23 the Church prays the Antiphons in the vespers, evening prayers, that are part of the Liturgy of the Hours, prayers prayed at certain times of the day.
We invite you to join us in praying these words. Join us each night for the Antiphon, a short reflection and a few prompts for your own prayer and meditation.
O Wisdom of our God Most High,
guiding creation with power and love:
come to teach us the path of knowledge!
We pray to our God whose power is in love. We look to Wisdom to see where there are places in our relationships, communities, and world where power comes from a place of oppression, fear, hatred. We ask for Wisdom to guide us to teach us the paths to walk and act so as to transform those power structures so our world may more firmly sit on the path of Divine Wisdom and always be rooted in love.
Where in your life do you have authority and power over others? How do you wield this power? Do you act from love?
Where are those places you see others wielding power with fear, hatred, oppression? Spend time listening to Wisdom of our God Most High to hear where you may be called to speak, act, and love.
Where might Wisdom be inviting you to grow in knowledge of God? In knowledge of love?
