All Saints Day is a bittersweet day for me. It is a yearly reminder of the ache that forever sits in the middle of my heart by those who have gone before me. My father, grandparents, family, friends, and even my childhood dog, Ginger. It’s also a day that makes me pause and reflect on what kind of legacy am I living to leave behind? Is it one rooted in Christ, or in the world? I think I speak for most of us when I say all of our end goals are the same- to become a part of the communion of saints when we die. So I thought about them- the saints. All the men and women who have paved the path before us and what they would say to us now. Life is hard, and each day it seems to get harder and harder to live in a positive light when there is SO.MUCH.DARKNESS. all around us. So sit back, grab your favorite drink, and blanket and listen to a love letter from the saints that have gone before us…
Dearest Saints in the Making-
We wanted to write to you today, on this day you call All Saints Day. We see the tenderness in your heart, the way it carries both sorrow and hope. We know you feel the ache, the very real and permanent hole left by the ones you have loved and lost- parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends, and yes, even pets. We want you to know that the love you shared with them is not lost. It is a part of the beautiful story we are all living.
Don’t be sad for us. Our joy is complete in the fullness of Christ. We are safe here in His loving arms, whole and at peace. We are watching over you, (thanks dad!) and our love for you is as real as it ever was. We are united in a profound way that connects heaven and earth, a beautiful tapestry of grace.
We were just like you, living ordinary lives, flawed and imperfect. We stumbled, we failed, and we needed grace every single day. The world calls us saints now, but in truth we were simply people who keep choosing God. We want you to know that the legacy you’re so thoughtfully considering is still worth chasing. It isn’t found in a perfect life. It is found in the small, consistent, acts of love, in the quiet forgiveness you offer to others, and in the way you keep showing up, even when it’s hard, and trust us, we see that it has been hard.
Your path of faith doesn’t happen in isolation; you are walking on ground we have already paved. You are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses, and we are cheering you on. The same grace that carried us through our struggles is with you right now. We are here, praying for you and celebrating your journey.
Sainthood is not a distant ideal; it’s a present invitation. It’s found in the way you love the people right in front of you, the way you show compassion, and the way you seek God in the quiet places of your life. It’s in the daily, beautiful mess of simply living.
On this day, we want you to be inspired, not burdened. Your grief is a testament to the love you gave and received, and that love is never wasted. It is what connects us all. So, carry your sorrow and hope with a heart full of courage. Live intentionally, choosing to reflect Christ in all you do. One day, we will be reunited, not just in memory, but in the fullness of joy with Christ.
Until then, remember that we are all part of the same eternal story, and we are always with you.
With all our love,
The Saints Who Have gone Before You
